| What kind of waranty do you offer? |
| Some potential customers are concerned that they will have trouble having warranty work done if they don't buy from a local dealer. Rest assured that it is not unusual in the industry for a customer to purchase a boat from a dealer in their hometown and have the boat serviced by another dealer far away from home where they actually use the boat. Mercury warranties the engine, shifter box and cables separately from the boat. Any authorized Mercury dealer can do either warranty or after-warranty work. As far as warranty work on the boat itself, you can choose any dealer/service provider you would like. We will pay the dealer as though they were doing out of warranty work. Dealers prefer doing service and repair work on boats when they are out of warranty because service and repair work is not profitable when the boat is under warranty. When a dealer does warranty work, the manufacturer dictates how long the repair should take, limits the hourly rate to less than what the dealer normally charges, and does not allow mark-up on parts. Conversely, when the dealer does service and repair work outside of the warranty period, the work is more profitable. In fact, service work is a leading profit center for many dealerships. Because out of warranty work is more profitable work, the dealers are more anxious to do the work. Although we pay more for the work to be done, our customers benefit by being able to choose any dealer they prefer, and having a dealer who is anxious to do the work. Of course the boat is built to the highest quality standards to limit the possibility that warranty work will be needed; however, if something does need attention, we will do whatever it takes to resolve the problem. |
