Home arrow F.A.Q. arrow How do I determine if I need a Third Pontoon?
A "triple-toon" is required over 115HP so that the force of the engine is distributed throughout the boat, instead of just the transom area of the standard 2 tube boats. The third pontoon also makes the entire boat much stronger so that the boat is more rigid at the higher speeds generated by higher horsepower motors. The extra strength is needed at higher speeds as the force created by rough water increases significantly as speed increases. The third pontoon also adds extra buoyancy, lifting the boat further out of the water, reducing the risk of waves coming over the bow.
